Nearly a year after his last drama, "Remember: War of the Son" star Yoo Seung-ho will be returning to the small screen as a crown prince. The upcoming drama's production company People story announced the casting on Oct. 12, Wednesday.
The 23-year-old actor will play the lead role of Crown Prince Lee Seon in the MBC drama tentatively titled "Ruler - Master of the Mask." The historical romance drama will take place in the 1700s during the era of the Joseon dynasty, according to Korea Times.
Yoo's character in the drama rises up against a powerful organization of the rich and wealthy that intends to privatize the waters of Joseon. The prince becomes the only hope of survival for the poor as he fights for justice and overcomes adversity with the help of the woman he loves.
Yoo worked incredibly hard to prepare for his role as Prince Lee Seon. The actor reportedly went through rigorous physical training and also put in hours of work in order to better understand his on-screen character.
"I chose this production because I was captivated by the solid script and charismatic character of Lee Seon," Soompi quoted the actor as saying. He also pointed out that viewers will see a side of him that has never been seen before and wants everyone to look forward to the drama.
A source close to production was all praises for Yoo's acting skills. The insider said that with his acting talent and the level of confidence he exhumes, Yoo will be able to do justice to the role and deliver a power-packed performance.
The drama, written by Park Hye Jin, will have 20 episodes and is expected to start filming in December once the cast has been frozen. The drama is slated to air on MBC in the first half of next year.
