Due to positive reception both from the critics and viewers, "Narcos" Season 3 has been renewed. The death of the main protagonist Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) in the previous season marked as one of the highlights of the drug cartel drama.

As fans of "Narcos" rejoiced for the continuation of the Netflix drug trafficking drama, some of them have expressed their doubts, whether the show would remain as good as before without the Medellin Cartel kingpin. Netflix executives have remained positive about assuring fans that they should first see "Narcos" Season 3 that would give rise to the Cali Cartel.

New photo of DEA Agent Javier Pena from Season 3 was released as an indication that the production of the new season is underway. It is uncertain if Pena is reporting about the new drug cartel Cali Cartel or he is reporting about Escobar's death, Screen Crush reported.

Before the announcement of "Narcos" Season 3, one of the big questions that needed to be answered, is whether DEA Agent Javier Pena (Pedro Pascal) and Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook) will return to the show after they took down Escobar.

Since the recent released photo confirmed the return of Pena, who left Colombia with Murphy after Escobar's death, it is not sure whether Murphy will also be returning. Holbrook earlier signed for a new project Shane Black's "The Predator."

"We're still working it out," Holbrook told The Hollywood Reporter about his character Murphy, who is also the Netflix cartel drama's narrator. Steve didn't retire from the DEA until, I believe, two years ago. He was very active in the DEA for a long time so I'll leave that up to you to find out."

For viewers asking about the new drug cartel in "Narcos" Season 3 after Medellin, producer Eric Newman assured that it is "more pervasive and more insidious." It is more powerful as it even bought the presidency of Colombia in 1994.

With the good ratings, awards and feedbacks that "Narcos" is getting, the show is showing signs that it is still going to last for a few more years. The fourth installment of the series has also been ordered by Netflix.

As previously reported, "Narcos" Season 3 will pick up with a slight time jump from where the Season 2 left off. Newman explained that it would help viewers to appreciate and understand the show better with the introduction of the new characters and new Cali cartel.
