Released in 1973, the HBO series' original movie version already explored the said scenario with its Roman world and an Old West counterpart. With the premise of incorporating new android hosts in a new world, several fans have speculated of a potential "Game of Thrones" crossover in the said series.

Previous reports have hinted of the appearance of Westeros characters such as Ned Stark and Khal Drogo in a Medieval-themed world. It appears that a similar concept was suggested by "A Song of Ice and Fire" author George RR Martin.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "Westworld" showrunners Jonathan Nola and Lisa Joy recounted a dinner engagement they had with the novelist. During the said event, Martin pitched a potential crossover that would have incorporated some "Game of Thrones" characters to the sci-fi HBO series.

Details of the pitched crossover were not disclosed although "Westworld" showrunners stated that they were flattered with Martin's offer. However, Joy may not be open to the crossover idea as compared to her colleague Nolan.

"I need to believe that dragons are real," she said, referring to the iconic "Game of Thrones" creatures. "I want them be a real thing. So as much as I love George, I can't lose that for myself!"

Injecting Khal Drogo and other "Game of Thrones" characters to the HBO sci-fi series' potential Medieval world would also be a challenging project. Showrunners would need to deal with legal and licensing issues, as well as logistical arrangements before the said crossover can happen.

In other news, "Westworld's" upcoming episode 4 will feature a bounty hunt that involves William (Jimmi Simpson), Logan (Ben Barnes) and Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood). Episode spoilers posted on Slash Film also teased of Maeve's (Thandie Newton) troubling visions and The Man in Black's (Ed Harris) discovery of a maze secret.

"Westworld" airs every Sunday on HBO. Watch the preview for episode 4 below:
