The Illuminati in the Marvel comics, are a clandestine organization that is run by some of the most powerful and brilliant minds in the Marvel universe. It members include Tony Stark/Iron Man representing the Avengers, Professor Charles Xavier representing the X-Men and mutantkind, King T'Challa/Black Panther representing Wakanda, Namor representing Atlantis, Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic representing the Fantastic Four and the scientific community, Black Bolt representing the Inhumans, and Doctor Stephen Strange representing the mystical side.

The group was initially the brainchild of Tony Stark, who enlisted the help of T'Challa to assemble the heads of various superhero teams into a cohesive unit, in response to extraterrestrial threats. It morphed into a secret society of Marvel leaders, who would ultimately influence the future of the planet. Other members of Marvel universe also joined the Illuminati such as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Hank McCoy/Beast, Hank Pym/Ant-Man and Bruce Banner/The Hulk.

Furthermore, each member of Illuminati has his own Infinity Stone to safe guard and a way for them to know that they part of the group.
