Manchester rivals, United and City went head to head for the second time this season and it was "the red half" of Manchester, United who came out on top in this by one goal to nil.

The match between the two sides which was the fourth round of the EFL Cup was settled by the one goal, scored by Man United's Juan Mata. There appeared to be a foul on United's Ander Herrera during the build up, but it made little difference as United were still able to score from the build-up.

As for their rivals City, this is the sixth game that they have failed to win, which is the first time their manager Pep Guardiola has ever gone on a winless run this long.

The match itself was arguably, Man United's against arguably a City team that heavily featured younger players in it, not that Jose Mourinho's Manchester United side will care too much, though.

As a result of this win, The Red Devils will play East London side West Ham United, who after a difficult start to the season in the league, are now in the quarter-finals of the cup.

The Hammers defeated Chelsea, which ruined the chance of another "reunion" with The Blues for former manager Jose Mourinho. For Portuguese manager who has won this trophy on several occasions with Chelsea, looks to be aiming to achieve the same success at Stamford Bridge in this tournament that he did at Chelsea.

Winning this tournament won't be easy. With the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal still in the cup, arguably the self-proclaimed "Special One" could have his work cut out.

If one was to ask the fans, however, I am sure many if not all would say that, a Champions League place would be the main priority, but it would be "good" to win a trophy along the way.

Both fans and manager will be hoping that this win against their cross-city rivals Manchester City, will help improve the fortunes of their season.  To boost confidence in a side, United have to keep winning, it's as simple as that.
