"In the relationship I couldn't communicate," FKA Twigs told ES Magazine about an abusive ex-boyfriend. "The person I was with was stopping me from explaining how I felt. So the physical manifestation is someone putting their hand in your mouth."

She added, "But there's an element, too, of liking that as well. It's messed up. It's addictive." Furthermore, FKA Twigs elaborated that she considers this concept as both "violent" and "beautiful."

"It's kind of sexy, like emotional abuse can be tender. That's why it's messed up," FKA Twigs said. She explained that emotionally abusive relationships can be tender, that's why some people prefer to stay in it and that a "poorly part of your mind" unconsciously likes it.
