NVIDIA has recently released the hot GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 cards but the EVGA Dual Fan custom cards seem to be hotter than usual as they reportedly caught fire.
It is no secret that the two Pascal GPU powered video cards are the best in the market now. Customers have been clamoring on for new stocks almost every day but that seems to have caused a problem.
Nobody knows yet whether if it was NVIDIA's or EVGA's fault as it could be because of the rushed production process to meet the demands. There have been several users reporting that their EVGA GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 catching fire while gaming, Digital Trends has learned.
Some just report that their cards have suddenly stopped working because of overheating while some straight up claim that there have been flames shooting out from their Pascal video cards. There are already photos posted on several Reddit and forum threads.
EVGA seems to have been the culprit in the scenario as some users found that the overheating issues were due to the lack of direct cooling on the voltage regulation module. Most users are now recommended to stay away from the cards for now as EVGA works on the issue.
All of the EVGA FTW and Dual Fan cards for the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 seem to be affected with the issue, Hot Hardware reported. What is more depressing is that the cards do not need to be overclocked to overheat as some of the reports claim that they were just running stock voltages and frequencies.
EVGA said that they have already conducted tests on their cards to see if the issue can be replicated. They claim that the reports have stemmed from the fact that they are using the EVGA GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 cards under "extreme" circumstances.
The company is now offering free thermal pads for those who want lower temperatures on their FTW or Dual Fan cards. Some users are not satisfied with the response of EVGA considering that they did not also give an explanation or guarantee that the card will work as it should even without the thermal pads.
