WhatsApp is now finally allowing users to share GIFS, Live Photos and snippets of videos through the app as long as the user has an iPhone.
Other messaging apps have already allowed users across platforms to send GIFs to their friends if they want to share something funny. GIFs have also been widely used for some memes which is the current trend today.
Facebook-acquired WhatsApp has just recently introduced the feature which is weird considering that Messenger already has this feature for several months now. The app is now just allowing users to share GIFs and videos.
WhatsApp for iPhone users now have a new GIF search engine for those who want to send one to their friends in the app, BGR has learned. The app also allows users to send six-second videos and Live Photos but they will be automatically converted to GIFs to the recipient.
Another caveat is that WhatsApp is only allowing iPhone 6S and later phones to send such GIFs. It would seem that WhatsApp users with older iPhones will have to make do with sending GIFs from the search engine instead.
Android users of WhatsApp will have to wait for the update to come to them so they can finally send GIFs as well, The Bitbag reported. iPhone users can also customize their GIFs with emojis and texts if they desire.
Short videos that WhatsApp users want to send can also trim their clips to shorter ones even under six seconds. Favorite GIFs can also be saved for faster access whenever a friend says something worthy of a GIF.
WhatsApp already pushed the update for iOS users. iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 users can instantly use the Live Photos to GIFs feature instantly once they download the latest version of the app on their phones.
Users of WhatsApp on Android will have to wait for the update to hit the platform if they want to send GIFs. For the meantime, they can just use Messenger for their needs.
