"Pirates of the Caribbean 5" may be the first film in the franchise without the notorious Captain Jack Sparrow at the center of the spectacle. It has been rumored that Johnny Depp is still reprising his role as Sparrow, although he will not appear as the lead character.

It has previously been reported that the tides will begin to change in "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" as the movie is poised to pave the way to a younger generation of characters and new adventures. Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites), son of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), is leading the pack this time around. Moreover, it is said that the conflict between Henry and the show's main villain, Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), is going to be the focus of the film from start to finish.

The first official trailer of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" shows zero footage of Depp's Jack Sparrow, The Guardian reported. However, there is mention of him and it spells bad news. The big bad, Captain Salazar, is searching for Sparrow and he corners Henry to coerce him to divulge his whereabouts.

The lack of Jack Sparrow sightings in the "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" trailer comes as a huge surprise to fans, especially since the character was the driving force of the previous films and helped the movie gain huge success. However, the synopsis for the film reassures fans that Sparrow is indeed returning.

"Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea ... including him," the official synopsis reads. Jack's last chance of survival is finding the Trident of Poseidon, a powerful item that gives its possessor the power to control the seas.

Meanwhile, Depp is about to take part in another massive fantasy franchise: "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." According to ET Online, Depp is playing Gellert Grindelwald. As a matter of fact, he makes his debut as the character in the first "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" movie, which premieres in theaters on Nov. 18.
