Peru has been winless in two of its last three matches and is currently in the eighth spot of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying table. They are nine points above ninth-place team Venezuela and only a point below seventh-running squad Paraguay.

Peru pulled off an impressive 4-1 upset victory over Paraguay in matchday 11 last Thursday in a match held on the road at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco in Asunción to snap a two-game winless skid, as per Sportstarlive.

Paraguay midfielder Cristian Riveros opened the scoring in the ninth minute as the hosts were able to keep it to take a one-point advantage at the break.

However, head coach Ricardo Gareca's side went alive in the second half as they unloaded four goals in the final 45 minutes of play.

The floodgates were opened three minutes after the restart with a goal from center back Christian Ramos to equalize the count. After that, winger Edison Flores gave the lead to Peru with another goal in the 71st.

Midfielder Christian Cueva made it a 3-1 count in the 78th before an own goal by Paraguay's Edgar Benitez completed the final count in the 84th.

Meanwhile, Brazil dominated rival Argentina, 3-0, at the Mineirão in Belo Horizonte also last Thursday, the Mirror reported.

Neymar outshone his Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi during the match assisting on Philippe Coutinho's opening goal in the 24th minute before he came through with his own right in the 45th with the assist this time coming from striker Gabriel Jesus.

A Chinese Super League connection of Paulinho and Renato Augusto completed the three-goal haul in the 58th minute with the Beijing Guoan midfielder assisting to his Guangzhou Evergrande counterpart.
