Alec Baldwin, who has become known for portraying Donald Trump on "Saturday Night Live," returned to the show on Nov. 19, Saturday, appearing as the confused United States President-Elect. He was joined by Jason Sudeikis as Mitt Romney and Beck Bennett as Mike Pence.
The show was able to even reference the recent meeting between Trump and Romney in the afternoon of Nov. 19, Saturday, as well as Pence's visit to Broadway where he was booed. It was not clear if Baldwin will continue with his role in "Saturday Night Live" or if he will return for an occasional appearance. He agreed to the role assuming it was temporary, and that his gig would end with Hillary Clinton's election win, according to Deadline.
Baldwin has been noticeably absent in the NBC show after the Nov. 8 elections. He later revealed he had other commitments that week.
"What's interesting is when people said to me, 'You didn't do it after the election,'" Baldwin told Variety at the gala of the American Museum of Natural History in New York on Nov. 17, Thursday. "I'm not available every Saturday night of my life, you know what I mean?"
The New York gala event Baldwin attended had more than 700 guests, bringing out many of the city's A-listers. Notable attendees were "SNL" stars Kate McKinnon, Vanessa Bayer, Pete Davidson, Leslie Jones, Colin Jost, Aidy Bryant, Sasheer Zamata and Michael Che.
"SNL" alumnae Tina Fey and Kristin Wiig were also present, and so were Matthew Morrison, Ellie Kemper and Jane Krakowski. Mayor Bill de Blasio appeared and spoke to the crowd.
It was not long when TV producer and "SNL" creator Lorne Michaels, who is among the Museum Gala Chairs was announced as a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient. He was welcomed at the gala to a standing ovation. The event host Seth Meyers congratulated Michaels.
"This honor couldn't have come at a better time," Meyer said in his opening. "Lorne is an immigrant."
The yearly black tie affair was full of political humor and fun. Baldwin, Meyers and "SNL" veteran Kenan Thompson rendered a special recreation of the 1986 film "¡Three Amigos!" The trio performed with sombreros the memorable dance scene from the movie.
