The Cleveland Cavaliers could consider trading for Deron Williams as the team continues to address their need of a reliable backup point guard.

The Cavs are still exploring their options in looking for a suitable piece at backup PG. After reaching an impasse with Mo Williams before the season starts, the Cavs are left reeling to find a replacement for the veteran point guard.

While the Cavs do have Kay Felder in their lineup, the defending champs don't seem ready to hand the rookie heavy minutes at the said position, which would likely see the Cavs exploring the trade market before the deadline. According to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, the Cavs could make a trade in mid-December, when free agents signed over the summer can be traded, and among the players in Cleveland's radar is Dallas Mavericks' Deron Williams.

"All indications are (for now) that they will try and go the trade route to get a backup to Kyrie Irving. Could be around Dec. 15, when free agents signed over the summer can be traded. I'm just throwing a name out there -- Dallas' Deron Williams is on that list," Vardon wrote.

Adding Williams would give the Cavs a veteran playmaker, whose experience could also help in the development of Felder. Williams, who is averaging 12.5 points and 4.8 assists per game this season, could take some minutes off Irving and would allow a more fluid offense from the second unit. Williams has established himself on a starting role in his 11-year career, but the chance of contending for a title could entice the 32-year-old to accept a job off the bench in Cleveland.

It is unclear whether the Mavs would have genuine interest in trading Deron for Mo, but the former's expiring contract could force Dallas to consider such move. A potential deal for Deron Williams could also involve Iman Shumpert, who has been linked to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Mike Dunleavy Jr. could also be a trade chip, with the 36-year-old shooting guard not getting enough minutes in Cleveland.

Injuries have put the Mavs at the bottom of the Western Conference, which could force them to make changes in their roster. If the Cavs could offer an enticing package, there is a chance Dallas could let go of Deron Williams.
