Everyone was devastated with the news that 2NE1 is officially disbanded, according to YG Entertainment.

"Our contract with 2NE1 came to an end in May of 2016, and as we faced a situation where Minzy is no longer with us, we ultimately came to a decision of 2NE1's official disbandment after long discussion," YG said in its official announcement.

Below are the seven probable reasons why YG decided to disband 2NE1

Park Bom Drug Scandal

In 2014, Park Bom's drug scandal exploded when she was caught carrying 80 amphetamine tablets from the US. In South Korea, one is allowed to carry three months' worth of prescription drugs. Since then, Park Bom was on hiatus halting the promotions of the group. In response, YG focused on the solo careers of CL and Dara.

South Korea President Park Geun Hye Scandal

One of the main reasons of YG's decision is probably related to the involvement of the label to the President Park Geun Hye scandal. YG is under the microscope for alleged close ties with the religious leader and President Park. It was reported that these ties allowed YG to bury the scandals involving the label in the past.

Minzy's Departure

In its official announcement about 2NE1 disbandment, YG cited Minzy's departure as one of the deciding factors in disbanding the female group. In August, YG announced that Minzy left the group and the label after her contract ended. She signed under Music Works and is currently preparing for a solo comeback.

CL's US Career

CL's US debut has been going well. She just wrapped up her US and Canada tour. Her journey for her US debut started in 2013, but her career kicked off just recently. CL is signed under Republic Records of Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun. With high profile friends like Adidas' Jeremy Scott and Producers Diplo and Skrillex, she is set for stardom.

BLACKPINK Debut

It seems that 2NE1 has been replaced with YG's newest girl group BLACKPINK. The group has been compared to their sunbae since their debut. Composed of four members, the group's striking resemblance to 2NE1 is undeniable.

Teddy's New Label

1TYM's Teddy is the main producer of 2NE1 songs and is currently working with BLACKPINK and is establishing his sub-label under YG. Reports claimed that Teddy's THE BLACK LABEL is looking for male trainees for an upcoming boyband.

Dara and Bom Ages

Lastly, Dara and Bom are not young anymore. Both are turning 34 years old next year. The two are probably thinking of dating and marriage.
