The flagship AMD Zen 8-core Summit Ridge SR7 chip will reportedly release with top clock speed of 3.5GHz, easily outpacing it Intel rival Core i7 5960X. And the best part, the high-end processing beast is ready to take home for only $499, a new report said.

Compared to the i7 5960X, which sells for $999, or the i7 6900K, with a price tag of $1199, the AMD Zen SR7 promises to be the clear winner over the nearest competition, WCCFTech reported. Pointing to the latest leaks, the report added that the chip's updated clock speed is a jump from the previous listing of 3.2GHz.

"The improvement in clock speeds over the previous revision puts it ahead of Intel's eight-core Haswell-E i7 5960X processor in terms of performance," the report said.

The Zen SR7 is the flagship of the three Summit Ridge product tiers that AMD is expected to introduce via the Las Vegas CES in January 2017. WCCFTech said the high-end SR7 is coming out shortly after its unveiling and to be followed by the mid-range SR5, also in 8-core configuration, and the entry-level SR3 with 4-core settings.

The report also indicated that the SR7 will have a 6-core version that is even easier on the pocket, retailing for only $349. The key difference between the two is that the cheaper SR7 has a slightly lower Turbo Clock set at 3.2GHz.

Of the three, it is the SR5 that should prove as the sweet spot for buyers with the cash damage only amounting to $249 while still boasting of 8-core structure. But as indicated in the same report, the Core Clock and Turbo Clock for the SR5 are yet to be determined and will be announced later on.

The cheapest of the Zen Summit Ridge micro-architecture bunch is the SR3 that while very affordable is still formidable packed with high-end 4-core. AMD is reportedly selling the chip for only $149 and according to WCCFTech, "if true sounds really incredible, an i7 6700 tier product at i3 pricing."

As mentioned, the AMD Zen 8-core Summit Ridge SR7 release date will happen no later than January 2017 or immediately after the unveiling via the CES 2017. For the SR5 and SR3, buyers will have to wait until March before a getting a hold on the chips.
