Darkseid appeared as stage effect in the first "Injustice" title and became a playable character in mobile version. He also appeared in the game's comic book series.

Boon has been busy on Twitter making several character surveys on which characters gaming fans wants to see in "Injustice 2" roster. Boon cited "Mortal Kombat" fighter Sub-Zero, Spawn and The Watchmen as possible additions to "Injustice 2".

Aside from guest characters, there are also a number of DC comics heroes and villains that could join "Injustice 2" such as Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm), Red Tornado, Captain Atom, Beast Boy, Starfire, John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Captain Cold, Black Canary, The Atom, Ra's al Ghul, Vixen and many more.

So far, the roster of "Injustice 2" consist of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Supergirl, Aquaman, Deadshot, Blue Beetle, Harley Quinn, Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Marketing Manager Brian Goodman teased new gameplay features for "Injustice 2". Goodman told Gamereactor that Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios are working on the structure of the sequel's storyline.

Goodman explained that they are going to make sure the plot for "Injustice 2" would be perfect story-wise and will have gamers play it again for the second time. Goodman added that they are a number of new single player modes for "Injustice 2", as well as a set of online game modes and even a co-op gameplay soon.

It was noted that the decision to include branching storylines within "Injustice 2" was not only for the sake of giving players replayability, but to enable the team to revisit certain events in the sequel and the whole DC Universe.

NetherRealm Studios previously addressed the concerns over the "Gear System" in "Injustice 2" as gaming fans fear that the use of it could make the game unbalanced. Goodman explained that he and the game developers anticipated that the hesitation from the fans and the are developing it "intelligently" to deliver something new and unique for both gaming and comic book fans. He admitted that the gear system could indeed give off an unfair advantage to some players, but there are game modes that will cater to the players concerns to make in balanced as possible.

"Injustice 2's" gear system allows players to upgrade each characters abilities and stats by unlocking several loot gears after a match, whether they win or lose a fight. Not only will it change the character's appearance, but will gain extra boost of powers and even unlock new ones, iTechPost reported.

The sequel will likely launch on the first quarter of 2017 which is roughly on January-March based on GameStops marketing plan. "Injustice 2" will launch alongside other titles such as "Mass Effect: Andromeda" and "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild". It is also theorized that gamers will likely gain more interest in "Injustice 2" since Wonder Woman is included in the roster and with her solo film coming on June next year, the sequel will gain a huge boost of attention.

"Injustice 2" will launch sometime in 2017 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms.
