German automaker BMW will be bringing the BMW 5 Series 540i sedan to the United States in February 2017.
According to online magazine BMW Blog, under the hood of the new car is a new 3.0-liter single-turbo engine mated with the ZF eight-speed automatic, which generates 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. Its 0-to-60 mph acceleration is reportedly 0.7 seconds faster than its predecessor, the 535i.
BMW will give customers the option to equip their vehicles with the M Sport pack, which will include, among other things, two rectangular tail pipes and lowered suspension, plus 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels. Its front apron allows for greater air intake and it also has a diffusor-style rear apron and side skirt trim. It includes a leather steering wheel, illuminated M entry rails, and sports heated seats, among others.
The price of the BMW 5 Series 540i Sports package will be announced at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2017.
Meanwhile, the BMW 5 Series 530d equipped with the xDrive system is currently being test driven in Lisbon, Portugal by journalists. According to the Telegraph, it is powered by a straight six-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine paired with an eight-speed automatic. It generates 457 pound feet of torque at 2,000 rpm and 261 pound feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. It reportedly generates 265 horsepower and can accelerate to 62 miles per hour in 5.4 seconds.
The G30 530d xDrive will be available in February 2017 although it is still not certain if it will reach U.S. customers.
Options for the BMW 5 Series include rear-wheel and four-wheel drive layouts and different engines, namely: the 2.0 L B48 turbocharged I4, the 3.0 L B58 turbocharged I6, the 4.4 L V8, and the 4.4 L twin-turbo V8 for petrol; and the 2.0 L B47 turbocharged I4, the 3.0 L B57 turbocharged I6, and the 3.0 L quad-turbo I6 for diesel. Transmission options includes 6-speed manual, 8-speed Steptronic automatic, and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The BMW 5 Series reportedly has three models: saloon, Touring, and GT.
