Naomi Watts finally broke her silence and candidly talked about life after her split with long-time partner Liev Schreiber in an interview over the weekend.

PEOPLE learned Watts had a sit down interview with The Daily Telegraph Australia where she shared how she had been coping after the breakup. She revealed that her kids remain to be a top priority and feels hopeful for her family.

"I feel I'm in a good place in my life and I want to make sure my kids are healthy, my kids are happy and things are going to go well. Those are my hopes for me and for all of us," Watts said.

She also shared about her breakup with Schreiber being on the spotlight. Watts considered this as a "time of change" for their family and described this as a "scary transition" for them since this was a new experience for all four of them.

"I feel, whether you're famous or not, transitions are scary for anybody. I feel like change is always scary, but that's only because transition for anyone is new and you wonder how things are going to go," she said.

According to PEOPLE, Watts went on and admitted that "logistical decisions" such as holiday celebrations still need to be resolved.

US Weekly reported she and Schreiber announced their separation last September. In a released statement, they emphasized that they will be raising their children together and requested for the media to respect their privacy.

"Over the past few months we've come to the conclusion that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple. It is with great love, respect and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship. While we appreciate your curiosity and support, we ask the press to be mindful of our children and respect their right to privacy," their joint statement read.

According to the entertainment news website, Watts and Schreiber were together for 11 years and never married. They began dating in 2005 after meeting on the set of romantic drama "The Painted Veil". Both share two sons Alexandra "Sasha", 9, and Samuel, 7.
