Netflix now allows their customers to download their favorite shows and movies for offline viewing. The caveat is that not all entries are available for downloading yet as they continue to secure rights.

One of the most requested features from Netflix customers is the ability to download videos so they can carry their TV series and films with them on the go. Netflix seems to have finally delivered after several years of trying to secure the required rights.

On-demand or video streaming has become the norm for those who actually have the bandwidth but some prefer to download their entertainment for offline viewing. Netflix now knows this and is allowing offline viewing for some, not all, of their content in the app.

Netflix CCO Ted Sarandos said in an interview with CNBC in November that offline viewing is a much-needed feature in international markets where streaming during commute is a huge problem. Besides the internet speeds of mobile data plans, the price is also a hindrance for most to use their services.

Instead of having to turn on their mobile data and risk hitting the cap, Netflix users can just download what they want before they go out of their house with the stable home Internet connection. Space should not be a problem considering that most smartphones today support expandable storage with the exception of iPhones.

Netflix spokeswoman Marlee Tart wrote in an email to Wired that they are still working with global partners to get the downloading rights for their non-original content. All of Netflix exclusives are available for download but some of the TV shows that were acquired are not downloadable yet.

Some trending TV shows in Netflix include "Black Mirror," "Orange is the New Black," "Narcos" and "Stranger Things." Not all shows are downloadable and it could take several more weeks before Netflix can secure the downloading rights.

Netflix users should be able to see the download button next to the episode title inside the app. After downloading, they will be able to watch it offline on their devices.
