"Grand Theft Auto IV" players were surprised to know that Rockstar had rolled out a patch without prior announcement. "GTA IV" last received a patch more than six years ago which makes it more surprising.

Rockstar is known for its continued support for "GTA V" with new DLCs and patches almost every month. It would seem that they did not forget about "GTA IV" yet as they released a new patch.

Unfortunately, the patch just contains lots of bug fixes and no DLC is in sight. "GTA IV" players will finally be able to finish the "Out of Commission" mission even if their frame rate is above 60 frames per second, VG247 reported. The mission proved to be impossible for those who played it with their modern gaming rig which may include an NVIDIA GTX 1080 or a GTX 1070 that can dish out more than 100 fps for the game.

"GTA IV" was released in 2008 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. It followed through the "GTA" franchise with a new protagonist and enhanced graphics compared to the "Vice City" or "GTA: San Andreas" titles.

Rockstar's new "Grand Theft Auto IV" patch includes bug fixes for the map crosshair and video settings that were restricted to those who use newer GPUs, PCGamesN reported. There are also minor performance optimizations which may improve the gameplay on older systems that can barely keep up with the old system requirements of "GTA 4."

The bad news is that the new patch still does not remove the requirement for the Games for Windows Live software which is now becoming obsolete. In fact, they added a new "WTV270" error code that is an indicator of a bad connection problem between the software's servers and the player's own computer.

Other bug fixes include the text scrolling in the "Brief" menu in the game and the "drawlist overflow" crash. The "GTA IV" patch also added the compatible OS check for Windows, 8, 8.1 and Windows 10.
