The Chinese consumer electronics upstart also announced that it has a number of DirecTV Now promotions which will give consumers up to 12 months of complementary access to AT&T's new online TV service.

LeEco, which officially launched in the U.S. in October, started selling its products to U.S. consumers in its website.

Although LeEco did not name its wireless partners, it may be inferred that AT&T could be one of it, being a partner of LeEco. A spokesperson for the company did not immediately respond for comment.

The report also noted that the 100 retail stores is a modest number to make LeEco's presence felt, as Best Buy alone has more than 1000 stores nationwide.

LeEco started as an operator of an online video service in China. Over the years, it has expanded its business to include various hardware products, services and a movie studio.

The company has also has made major investments in autonomous cars. LeEco founder and chairman Jia Yueting expressed support for Faraday Future, a startup that aims to challenge Tesla.

Earlier this year, the company unveiled its own, separate electric car concept called LeSee. LeEco also holds a 70 percent stake in Chinese car-hailing company Yidao Yongche, a report in the Los Angeles Times said.

LeEco's service component is a key to its business model. It aims to sell U.S. consumers service plan called EcoPass, which include access to premium video content as well as extended warranties and other services.

Consumers who buy LeEco's TVs and phones are given free access to EcoPass for a limited time. However, the company has yet to announce how much they are going to charge for the plan.
