Vicarious Visions unveiled the first trailer for "Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy" for the PS4. The game is referred to as a "remaster plus" of the three original games that launched for the PS1 but with additional features and upgrades.
The game was presented with a full announcement trailer during this year's Playstation Experience event. The trailer showcases how the graphics are not just an HD upscaling of the original work but have been redone from scratch.
During the trailer many portions of the original PS1 games were showcased and then the clips revealed how they looked and function in the "N. Sane Trilogy" remaster.
Gameplay has also been redone from the ground up, the developers stated in a report from the Playstation Blog. This has been done to ensure high quality precision, which is needed for a 3D platforming game.
Unlike other remasters, the "N. Sane Trilogy" will introduce a few new features and upgrades to further make this feel like a PS4 title and not a PS1 port. Some of these changes include a manual and auto-save feature as well as time trials for all three games. This will address the lack of a traditional save function in the first "Crash Bandicoot" game.
Graphics and gameplay are not the only aspects being redone. According to Kotaku, the developers also confirmed the soundtrack is being remade and voice actors from the original versions, such as Lex Lang and Jess Harnell, have been brought back to reprise their roles.
Vicarious Visions were not the original developers of the franchise, as that honor goes to Naughty Dog, but they have been working on the series since they did "Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure" for the Gameboy Advance. The developers also made a special Crash Bandicoot-themed level in "Skylanders Imaginators."
Rumors of a "Crash Bandicoot" revival were confirmed back in E3 but at the time it was not yet stated if the franchise would see a sequel to the original games, a reboot or a remaster. This has now been addressed with the announcement of "Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy."
No official release date has yet been announced.
