The biopic of pop icon Britney Spears will be aired by cable channel Lifetime where she is played by Australian actress Natasha Bassett. The latter revealed the role gave her more insights about what the singer had gone through.

"I started to gain a lot more of an understanding of what she went through," Bassett told Entertainment Tonight. "And it was very sad."

The upcoming television film, "Britney" will cover the "Baby One More Time" singer's early days in Louisiana, her struggles after her parents divorced, her romance with Justin Timberlake and her marriages to Jason Alexander and Kevin Federline. It will also reminisce her custody battle over her two sons as well as her career highlights such as during the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards when she kissed Madonna.

Bassett claimed no one can portray Spears better than she does as she is a fan of the pop icon. She is known for her scene-stealing role in "Hail Ceasar!" before portraying the singer. The actress revealed she watched every video and interview of the "Toxic" singer to immerse herself into her idol's world.

The upcoming biopic moved forward without the songstress' blessing and she will not be contributing to the film in any way. However, Bassett hopes she will watch the movie and the project will win the Grammy winner's favor.

Aside from Bassett, Spears' biopic stars Nathan Keyes, Kelly McCabe and Clayton Chitty who play as Timberlake, Alexander and Federline respectively.

Lifetime released photos from the upcoming TV film on Dec. 2, Friday, in honor of Spears' 35th birthday. The film will recall her 55-hour marriage to childhood friend Jason Alexander and her three-year marriage to Kevin Federline with which she had two sons, Sean Federline, 11, and Jayden James Federline, 10. It will also cover her breakdown in 2007, her fall from being famous, as well as her triumph and resurrection.

"Britney Spears will not be contributing in any way, shape or form to the Lifetime biopic," Spears' rep told Us Weekly. "Nor does it have her blessing."

Lifetime has done celeb's biopics in the past, such as those of the late Brittany Murphy and Whitney Houston. "Britney" will be out in February 2017.
