Fresh speculations suggest that OnePlus would be announcing OnePlus 5 flagship smartphone in 2017 by skipping OnePlus 4.

OnePlus 5 is expected to come out to succeed OnePlus 3T flagship phone that was unveiled in the previous month.  It means the Chinese firm is considering to skip OnePlus 4 moniker.

The probable reason why the company may skip OnePlus 4 name is that the number 4 is considered unlucky in the home country, Phone Radar reported.

In the past Sony did skipped Xperia Z4 smartphone when it released Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z5 smartphones.  Vivo too skipped V4 moniker by releasing Vivo V5 after releasing V3. Other companies like Nokia, Samsung and Canon are known for skipping number 4 in the serial and product numbers.

OnePlus 5 to Feature Premium Design

OnePlus 5 is expected to feature ceramic housing. Speculations are rife that OnePlus will be collaborating with the same designer that has built ceramic housing for Xiaomi Mi Mix. Ceramic body is not only resistant to scratch but also it can withstand higher temperatures.

In 2015, OnePlus X, a limited edition midrange smartphone was released with zirconia ceramic build. This allowed the smartphone to sport premium appeal. Hence, the OnePlus 5 is expected to come with a premium design.

OnePlus 5 Specifications

OnePlus 5 is expected to feature a 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED screen that will support quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. It will be driven by the next generation Snapdragon 835 chipset along with 6 GB of RAM. OnePlus 5 would be coming preinstalled with Android 7.0 Nougat OS along with the latest edition of Oxygen OS.

Smartphones sporting metal build are bad conductors for 5G signals. The inclusion of ceramic housing on OnePlus 5 hints to the fact that the smartphone may support 5G connectivity. Hence, future smartphones that will carry support for 5G networks are expected to feature ceramic builds.

OnePlus 5 Price, Release Date

OnePlus 5 with its premium ceramic chassis will not only carry a sleek appeal but also it is expected to come with an expensive price tag. It is likely that the OnePlus 5 may come with a starting price of $499, TheGamersDrop reported. It is expected to release at the end of the second quarter of 2017.
