AMD may have leaked the Radeon RX 490 specs and performance in an "Ashes of the Singularity" benchmark. The hardware ID of the said GPU has been spotted online in the "AOTS" results list.

Fans have been waiting for the AMD Radeon RX 490 as the RX 480 failed to beat the competition which is the NVIDIA GTX 1080. AMD did release more cards such as the RX 470 and the RX 460 but they were targeted towards the low-end market.

Now, the AMD Radeon RX 490 is expected to take on the GTX 1080 but specs of the new video card have not been released yet. Fortunately, the recent "Ashes of the Singularity" benchmark leak could provide some more light.

One "AOTS" benchmark result online had the Device ID of 687F:C18 which is similar to AMD's naming convention for the Polaris GPUs that powers their Radeon RX 4XX cards, Digital Trends reported. The results also show that the numbers are higher than the current Polaris cards which means that it would certainly be a faster variant.

The unnamed video card has a score of 8400 in the "Ashes of the Singularity" benchmark which is higher than the GTX 1070 and on par with the GTX 1080. Unfortunately, the "AOTS" leak does debunk the speculations that the Radeon RX 490 would be a dual-GPU because it was not indicated in the results, Hexus reported.

There are still conflicting speculations whether the new video card would be powered by a Polaris GPU or the new Vega 10 GPU which is expected to be released soon. The card itself could also be named something else if AMD would use the Vega 10 GPU.

Rumored specs of the Radeon RX 490 card include 16GB HBM2, if it will use the Vega GPU, and could have up to 24TFLOPs in processing power for half-precision. It would certainly be a better pick over the GTX 180 but probably not against the upcoming GTX 1080 Ti as well.
