The fight against HIV and AIDS has become more and more successful over time, thanks to multidisciplinary approach that involves not only finding the best AIDS cure but also methods of preventing its proliferation.
With the ongoing campaign against AIDS, both government and non-government entities are doing their part to somehow resolve the issue. As of the current UNAIDS data, it revealed that there are already around 18.2 million people who had access to the life-saving medicines, which included 910 000 children.
Under those circumstances, the main portion of the treatment for the said disease centers on antiretroviral treatment, which has been relatively successful. However, such success is not enough to stop the ongoing transmission of the disease, especially among teenagers who are likely to be an easy target of HIV and AIDS.
Although the current treatment methods promise a much brighter future for AIDS patients, still the definite cure for the disease remains elusive. Despite having a broad consensus over treatment, prevention efforts are still considered as more politically contentious, according to the nonprofit, progressive news organization Truth Out.
Despite the said debates, UNAIDS is still very cognizant of the importance of prevention, for they highlighted the fact that HIV prevention is the key to ending AIDS epidemic and breaking the cycle of infection. This would be very necessary as the threat of a drug resistant infection is a great possibility.
"The progress we have made is remarkable, particularly around treatment, but it is also incredibly fragile. New threats are emerging and if we do not act now we risk resurgence and resistance. We have seen this with TB. We must not make the same mistakes again," says Executive Director of UNAIDS, Michel Sidibé on their official website.
The studies for HIV and AIDS cure have been widely supported and developed by world government in the hopes of finally ending the disease. However, the cooperation of the populace in practicing prevention methods would be helpful in stopping the potential evolution of the virus and its proliferation in the society.
