In "Game of Thrones" Season 1, viewers witnessed Daenerys' (Emilia Clarke) lavish wedding to Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa). Filmed at Malta's the Azure Window located in Gozo island, the unique rock formation served as a backdrop for the HBO show's Dothraki wedding.

The "Game of Thrones" production team were said to have hired a contractor to help in transforming the Malta tourist spot into a place where Khal Drogo and his people lived. Covering the surrounding areas near the Azure Window with a mesh, sand was poured on top of the said material to create a desert-like setting for the show.

However, the HBO series' filming activities in the said location damaged the famous landmark after the sand prop that was used was not properly removed from the site. A source told Daily Star that the Malta government "were not impressed" that the hit "Game of Thrones" production ruined a "fossil-rich" and scenic tourist spot.

The source added, "The Azure Window is one of the country's gems but it was left in such a mess. After the experts reported there had been serious damage, it was decided the show was not going to be allowed to return for future filming."

Meanwhile, "Game of Thrones" has moved on to other locations such Spain where several Season 7 scenes are currently being filmed. The HBO show's production team has been busy preparing and staging several locations in the Spanish city Caceres, which will be used as the setting for King's Landing, according to Winter is Coming.

"Game of Thrones" Season 7 is expected to premiere in summer 2017 on HBO. Watch a clip from the Season 6 finale below:
