"Blade Runner 2049" will be a sequel to the 1982 film "Blade Runner" and while it will see actor Harrison Ford reprise his role as Rick Deckard he is not going to be as prominently featured as many believe. Actor Ryan Gosling confirmed this while promoting his latest film "La La Land."

Gosling explained in an interview with Fandango that they had already been filming for months before Ford was brought on set. This would indicate that a large portion of the film had already been shot and that the character Rick Deckard might not appear until the second or third act of the movie.

"Obviously there was a lot of anticipation as to when he would show up and how that would be, and it was just a relief," said Gosling. "The second he got to set, he just rolled up his sleeves and we all just got to work. It was a real great pleasure to get to work with him."

According to a report from Cinema Blend, this will come as a surprise given that Ford's involvement was one of the first details announced for the movie. It is also uncertain if Ford had filmed for several months after he arrived on set, indicating he could still have filmed a large portion of the movie.

Ford's Deckard may reportedly have a similar role to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Skywalker was an important character and his presence was felt throughout the film but audiences only got a glimpse of him at the very end of the movie. This approach may be done in regards to Deckard.

Deckard was one of the titular Blade Runners, officers who hunted down rogue androids known as replicants. One of the most popular fan theories is that Deckard himself is a replicant although he is unaware of his own nature. The sequel takes place three decades after the original and this would make Deckard one of the only replicants that have aged well beyond their expiration date.

"Blade Runner 2049" releases on Oct. 6, 2017.
