The month of December marked an impressive period for Niantic's "Pokemon Go" given the big reveal of its collaboration with Sprint and Starbucks. However, the gaming company's recent announcement that introduced new Pokemon babies to the mobile gaming app dampened the celebratory mood as it gained criticisms from avid fans.
The addition of Gen 2 Pokemon creatures to "Pokemon Go" has been on many gamer's wish list several months after Niantic launched the mobile gaming app. Hidden game codes discovered by dataminers even teased of the existence of 100 new characters and other enhancements that may be added to the game.
Recently, Niantic announced the first batch of new Pokemon creatures released to "Pokemon Go" that included a Togepi and a Pichu, according to patch notes posted on the game's official website. Apart from the said two creatures, other characters from earlier installments of the Nintendo "Pokemon" franchise were also added.
Gamers can expect to find a few Johto Region creatures that were originally introduced in the "Pokemon Gold and Silver" versions. However, instead of catching them in the wild, the said new additions can only be hatched from eggs as Pokemon babies.
Moreover, Niantic stated in its announcement that more Pokemon creatures will be released in the coming months. Despite the gaming company's promise to deploy future batches of potentially Gen 2 Pokemon characters, gamers were still disappointed with the recent update.
The latest "Pokemon Go" update was not even close to what gamers were expecting from Niantic's big December announcement, according to Forbes. Hatching the new Pokemon babies will also be a challenge for many players given the winter season.
Some of the new Pokemon babies can only be hatched from either 5 or 10 kilometers eggs. Traipsing around in the snow or in cold weather just to hatch a Pokemon egg is not an attractive gameplay element for several gamers.
