"Game of Thrones" may be one of the highly-praised and recognized TV drama series in the recent years. The HBO fantasy drama has already received several accolades and nominations from various award-giving bodies. For the upcoming Golden Globes 2017, the TV adaptation of George RR Martin's novels "A Song of Ice and Fire" is one of the contenders for the said event's Best TV Drama Series honor.

However, a new HBO show was also recognized with a Golden Globe nod for Best TV Drama. The sci-fi western series "Westword" received its first nomination and will compete against the hit "Game of Thrones," as well as three other shows.

"Westworld" showrunner Jonathan Nolan recently conveyed his excitement for the series' Golden Globe nomination. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he mentioned that he felt flattered with the recognition but indicated that he has low expectations that "Westworld" will nab the Best TV Drama award especially with "Game of Thrones" as its competitor.

Nolan stated, "You don't 'compete' against 'Game of Thrones' so much as be happy you're in the same conversation. That's a magnificent show and we're thrilled ... to be in the same conversation."

Apart from the Best TV Drama nod, "Westworld" also received two other nominations, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Cast members Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton received Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively.

Meanwhile, "Game of Thrones" received a total of two Golden Globe nods. Aside from Best TV Drama, Lena Headey received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her Cersei role.

The Golden Globes 2017 awards night will be held on Jan. 8, 2017. Learn more about the upcoming event in the clip below:
