Gong Yoo's tvN drama "Goblin" continue to break records given its storyline, star-studded cast and the bromance between its lead actors. With an explosive debut week, the said drama broke the two-week TV popularity reign of Lee Min Ho's "Legend of the Blue Seas."
"Goblin," also known as "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God," already achieved several milestones since it aired its first two episodes in early December. Recently, a Content Power Index revealed the tvN production's popularity on various social media platform and in the online community.
During the tvN series' debut week, Gong's drama scored 302.8 points on the said TV popularity index, according to entertainment firm CJ E&M and Nielsen Korea, as cited by Yonhap News. With its impressive score, "Goblin" topped the Content Power Index for the period from Nov. 28 until Dec. 4.
Meanwhile, Lee's SBS series "Legend of the Blue Seas" slipped to the second spot with 256 points. The fantasy mermaid drama previously held the top spot on the said index for two weeks prior the release of Gong's tvN drama.
Coming in at third place is the MBC singing competition "The King of Masked Singer" followed by the SBS drama "Dr. Romantic." The MBC show scored 236.7 points while the SBS medical series posted 223.9 points.
Apart from nabbing the top spot on the Content Power Index, "Goblin" also reached a high score on a buzzworthy TV drama chart. Gong's tvN drama was considered the most discussed topic online during the first week of December.
Having scored 12,500 points on Good Data Corporation's chart during its debut week, as cited by Korea Herald, "Goblin" posted higher scores than "Descendants of the Sun." The KBS hit series reached the 12,000-point milestone during its fifth week broadcast.
