Will "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" be Johnny Depp's last outing as Jack Sparrow? Although Jack Sparrow is one of the main characters in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, it seems the end is nigh for the witty pirate.
In the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales," Depp reprises his role as the iconic Jack Sparrow. The film, however, will still have Jack Sparrow playing an integral role in the plot. According to the movie's official synopsis, Jack Sparrow faces his old nemesis, Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), who escapes from the Devil's Triangle and is determined to kill every pirate at sea - including Jack. The only way Jack can defeat Salazar is if he finds the Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that will give him the power to control the seas.
The first official trailer of "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" did not show any footage of Jack Sparrow in action. Instead, it introduces the movie's new young characters including Brenton Thwaites as Henry Turner - Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swan's (Keira Knightley) son.
According to Movie Pilot, there will be reunion for Will and Henry in the upcoming sequel. Although there is a curse that keeps them apart, Henry believes there's a way he can get around it so that he can reconnect with his father. In the trailer, Captain Salazar forces Henry to spill the whereabouts of Jack.
"The Maze Runner" star Kaya Scodelario is also part of "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" as Carina Smyth, who is described as an astronomer and academic. She is on a journey to locate the Trident of Poseidon, which connects her to Jack Sparrow. It is also rumored that Carina may be the daughter of Captain Barbosa.
"Pirates of the Caribbean 5" is said to be a reboot of the franchise, Cinema Blend reported. It is also speculated that it may be Depp's last appearance as Captain Jack Sparrow, as the movie shifts its focus to the younger cast members that are expected to continue the story.
"Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales" hits theaters on May 26, 2017.
