"Arrow" Season 5 episode 9 titled "What We Leave Behind" featured several interesting scenes that hinted of Susan potentially knowing more than she should about Oliver's (Amell) past. Aired on Dec. 7, the said show's midseason finale gave viewers a glimpse inside Susan's apartment where the camera lingered for several seconds on the bottle of a Russian vodka.

With Susan pouring her house guest Oliver a drink from the said bottle, many fans speculated that the appearance of the Russian drink in Susan's apartment signals the said character's potential connection with the Russian government or with the mysterious villain Prometheus.

However, Amell shared in an earlier press event that Susan may appear to be one of the bad guys, however, she is only doing her job as a reporter. Having discovered that Oliver was not on trapped on an island for five full years, Susan will try to uncover the truth behind the Star City mayor's past, Comic Book quoted the actor as saying.

"Arrow" co-showrunner Mericle also shared a similar statement during her interview with TVLine where she joked on how the viewers quickly noticed the camera's focus on the Russian vodka bottle. She added that Susan is convinced that Oliver may have been in Russia during his supposed five-year island experience.

Mericle's explanation also debunked fan theories that Susan may have slipped a hallucinatory drug in Oliver's drink that led to the character having imagined Laurel inside the bunker. The showrunner teased that the Russian vodka scene was just a nod to Susan's efforts to look into Oliver's past.

"Arrow" Season 5 returns to the small screens on Jan. 25, 2017. Watch a teaser clip from the upcoming midseason premiere below:
