Microsoft is locked in a perpetual console war with Sony and recently it was revealed that the company has sold 1 million Xbox One gaming consoles in November but failed to beat Sony by 100,000 units.

When it comes to the console wars, Microsoft has been beating Sony's PS4 for months, but the tide appears to be turning if November's sales figures are taken into account. According to the latest official accounts, Sony managed to retake the leadership position after spending several months in the number two spot.

According to leaked NPD figures pertaining to consoles, 1 million Xbox One consoles were sold in the month of November, reported Windows Central. However, in spite of this good performance, the Xbox One console could not retain the number one spot and slipped with Sony's PS4 taking over.

This apparent dominance of the PlayStation 4, however, is not all good news as it managed to outsell the Xbox One by only 100,000 units. With the PlayStation 4 overtaking the Xbox One in November Sony will be looking to maintain its lead as it goes into the busy holiday season. Sony also is banking on its advanced PS4 Pro console bringing in a boatload of customers who are attracted to its ramped up specifications.

The news that the PS4 outgunned the Xbox One in November has earlier been hinted at, but all eyes are on the official figures from NPD which are due to arrive today, reported CNET. Now with leaks indicating that Microsoft had to play second fiddle to Sony in terms of sales it appears that the official NPD sales figures will show much of the same.

Sony offered a discount of $50 on Black Friday for a 500GB PS4 Slim that was bundled along with an Uncharted 4 game and this was one reason why the console managed to outsell the Xbox One. The console from Microsoft meanwhile has been reigning on top of the charts since July after the Xbox One S was released in June.

Now, with Xbox One putting up a stiff fight analysts are indicating that this year's good sales figures will bring much-needed momentum to the console and give it an edge compared to its long-time rival the PS4.
