Search engine giant Google has revealed its yearly roundup of the most searched terms on the internet this year and, surprisingly, a web-based game tops the list in the United States. In terms of global overall searches, "Pokemon GO" is No. 1.
According to Kotaku, gamers in the U.S. have been searching for "Slither.io," a massive multiplayer browser game developed by Steve Howse. The objective of the game is to let the snake grow as long as possible, which is similar to the classic arcade game called "Snake." But this time around, high-scores are placed on a server for everybody to beat. The tactical arcade game was released last March and has an available app for iOS- and Android-powered devices.
Agar.io takes the second spot, which is another browser-based game. Instead of growing a snake, players are tasked to make their cell, in a form of a petri-dish, bigger by swallowing smaller sized cells without being consumed first by other online players. The game was released back in 2015 and has an iOS- and Android-based versions as well.
"Overwatch," Blizzard Entertainment's online multiplayer first-person shooter game, is in the third position. Two six-man teams compete to secure and defend control points on the map within a specified amount of time. Players get to enjoy the casual play style of the game, plus they get to receive updates for free that include new characters, maps and game modes. The game is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
At No. 4 is "Battlefield 1" from Electronics Arts. The first-person shooter game is the 15th game in the series and has a World War I theme. It was released last October and is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. Players get a chance to battle it out using bolt-action rifles, flame throwers and mustard gas on maps based on historical events.
Last but not the least on the list is the franchise created by Blizzard Entertainment, Warcraft. The name includes video games, novels and a movie and is all about two factions, orcs and humans, waging war against each other. The term was first used back in 1994 when the company released "Warcraft: Orcs & Humans."
These is the top five games that were searched the most in 2016 in the United States using Google.
