Author George R.R. Martin is known primarily for penning the "Song of Ice and Fire" novels, the series that were later adapted into the popular "Game of Thrones" show on HBO. Despite this, Martin has recently stated that his own series would lose to "Westworld" at the upcoming Golden Globe Awards.

"Being an HBO guy, I'm thrilled that to see that both 'Game of Thrones' and 'Westworld' have been nominated for the big prize," he told Entertainment Weekly, "though 'Westworld' is going to be some tough competition. (In fact, I would figure 'WW' for the favorite)."

Martin also stated that he was also delighted to see Netflix's show "Stranger Things" getting nominated. He further comments that out of the five nominees for Best Drama Series three of them are genre shows. The other two are the family drama series "This is Us" and the biopic series "The Crown."

It is further noted that "Westworld" may indeed win the awards as the Golden Globes often counter the victories during the Emmy Awards. Last awards season "Game of Thrones" managed to win the Emmy Award for Best Drama Series but the Golden Globes gave the award to "Mr. Robot."

This is speculated to happen again regarding "Westworld" and "Game of Thrones." This is reportedly likely to happen given that the former is a brand new show.

According to Comic Book, Martin also extended his congratulations to actress Lena Headey who was nominated for Best Actress. She is known for playing Cersei Lannister in "Game of Thrones." Other nominees in this category include "Westworld" stars Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton.

"Westworld" creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy did state they were heavily inspired by the world-building concept of "Game of Thrones." When asked what they thought of going up against the series for the Golden Globes they stated they were simply happy being in the same conversation.

It is noted that the shows are both from HBO and also share the same composer. "Westworld" Season 2 is not expected to premiere until 2018 and "Game of Thrones" Season 7 is set to launch in Summer 2017.
