In "Old Time Hockey," unlike Electronic Arts' NHL series, game characters do not wear helmets as fights normally breaks out. Players can hack the opposing players with hockey sticks and can even injure their rivals to force the opposing team to forfeit, as reported by Polygon.

The sports title is more than a 16-bit side-scroller that will surely bring back memories to old-timers who have grown playing their favorite sport in arcade machines. In a report by SportsNet, the game is inspired by arcade games "Techmo Bowl," "NBA Jam" and fellow hockey game "Blades of Steel.

Vancouver-based developer V7 Entertainment executive producer Mike Torillo said that they wanted players to once again experience the nostalgia of "playing on the couch" and "having few drinks with your buddies" while playing the game.

Torillo added that he is a fan of EA's NHL game series but said that they want players to experience in "Old Time Hockey" what they cannot do in an NHL game.

The game offers a modern control scheme which players can use to utilize the many features of the game. It also has a two-button setting for easy gaming. Beer Mode, meanwhile, allows the players to control the game with only one hand and to drink their beverage with the other hand.

It will feature a story mode that is set in the 70s and a versus mode which allows players to challenge their friends for a violent hockey match.

"Old Time Hockey" is expected to be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC next year.
