Nintendo Switch has been revealed but the power of the hybrid console is still unknown. Bethesda does not even know whether their AAA titles will make it in the new product from the company.
Fans were amazed to see the seamless transition of the Nintendo Switch between the home gaming mode and the portable mode. However, the roster of games seems to be highly similar to its predecessors which did not fare well in comparison with the Sony PlayStation 4 and the Microsoft Xbox One.
One concern is that AAA games such as "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" or the upcoming "Mass Effect: Andromeda" could be absent in the new console from Nintendo. Bethesda told Finder that they are still discussing whether the new "Prey" video game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch.
The new "Prey" gameplay videos show a much better-looking graphics engine compared to "Skyrim," which is what was demonstrated in the Nintendo Switch trailers. It also has an open-world that has more details which could spell disaster to a low-end gaming console.
"Prey" is still in development and Bethesda could decide to make a special version for the Nintendo Switch with possibly downgraded graphics. It would not be as pretty as its Xbox One, PlayStation 4 or PC counterparts but it could still be playable.
Another concern is that the Nintendo Switch could throttle its CPU frequency when in portable gaming mode in order to preserve battery life, WCCFTech reported. The new patent that was awarded to Nintendo stated that the range of the CPU clock frequency will be limited once the Nintendo Switch switches over to the portable gaming mode.
In addition, the patent also states that the image rendering capacity will also be limited. It could mean that the graphical quality could be downgraded in portable mode. However, it could apply to more demanding games since there were no noticeable differences during the live demonstration. The Nintendo Switch will arrive in 2017.
