NVIDIA has another winner in their roster of video cards as the new GALAX GeForce GTX 1060 set a new world record. The graphics card hit 3GHz for the core clock which is unprecedented.

The GTX 1060 is not a high-end video card but it is the first one to hit 3GHz through overclocking. NVIDIA boasted that their GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 cards could easily hit 2.1GHz but they did not seem to expect that the lower-tiered card can hit more than that.

GALAX successfully made an overclockable GTX 1060 HOF GOC that was able to reach 3010MHz with the Pascal GP106 GPU, Tweak Town reported. It was the same card that was able to hit 2.8GHz which is still impressive considering that the GP104 GPUs are hard to overclock in the first place.

The difference is that GALAX installed improved VRMs and PWMs that allowed the GTX 1060 to use more power with better stability compared to the Founders Edition cards or other similar custom products. Another interesting fact is that the 3GHz overclocked GALAX GTX 1060 was able to beat the GTX 1080's pixel fill rate which means that the performance gap could be nearer than previously thought.

Interested PC gamers in their homes should have loads of liquid nitrogen should they want to try out the overclock procedure for the GALAX GTX 1060 HOF to hit 3GHz, Hot Hardware reported. Overclocking is a complicated process which requires patience and a capable cooling method to prevent the card from being burnt.

GALAX's GTX 1060 HOF in its stock clock has a 1620MHz base frequency and a boost frequency of 1847MHz. The overclock up to 3GHz means that it was almost a two times improvement with regards to the GPU clock.

Users at home should not try to immediately overclock their GTX 1060 card without the proper knowledge and equipment. They might risk losing the warranty or even the life of their video card.
