Park Bo Gum has been tapped by Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) to host two awards night on Dec. 24 and 31. The event on New Year’s Eve is the 2016 KBS Drama Awards in which Song Hye Kyo confirmed she would attend.
The other one is the 2016 KBS Entertainment Awards on Dec. 24 at 9:15 p.m. According to AllKpop, Park Bo Gum’s co-host for this even is Irene of the Korean girl band Red Velvet. She was Park Bo Gum’s former co-host in “Music Bank” from May 2015 through June 2016.
Park Bo Gum is rumored to be dating Irene after she admitted in a recent taping for “Radio Star” that her former co-MC made her heart beat faster. There are also speculations that Irene is already his girlfriend, although it is unconfirmed.
Meanwhile, after the 2016 KBS Drama Awards, the next institution to hand out awards is the Korean entertainment website Soompi. The portal announced on Tuesday the launch of its 12th Soompi Awards to be held on Jan. 16, 2017. It is similar to the KBS Drama Awards in which the winners are determined by online votes.
It has two categories of awards – K-Pop and K-Drama. The Soompi Music Chart is the source from where the website would draw a list of nominees for K-Pop awards. For the K-Drama awards, the nominees are all dramas, variety shows and actors in Korean TV in 2016 based on viewership and popularity in Soompi.
There are 15 categories on its K-Drama awards, namely Breakout Actor, Best Idol Actor, Best Web Series, Best Adaptation, Best Foreign Drama, Best Variety Show, Best Variety Star, Best Drama OST, Best Bromance, Second Lead Syndrome, Best Kiss, Spottoon Best Couple, Actor of the Year, Actress of the Year, and Drama of the Year. Given the criteria, the year’s monster hit “Descendants of the Sun” and its actors Song Joong-ki and Song Hye Kyo stand a chance of being nominated and winning.
It is to the show’s advantage that Soompi has a Best Web Series award because as shown in the 2016 KBS Drama online voting results, the web drama “W Two Worlds” and its actors were number 1, while “Descendants of the Sun” and the SongSong couple came in second.
