BBC One has released a brand new trailer for the new series, "Taboo," starring Tom Hardy as James Keziah Delaney. The trailer shows Delaney as he returns home in London, seeking vengeance and to rebuild his life.

Throughout the trailer Delaney is greeted with shock and disgust from the people around him. It is explained that Delaney was thought dead. In the official synopsis obtained by Slash Film, Delaney had spent time in Africa and is now returning to inherit the shipping business of his father.

Unfortunately, it is stated his father's business is a "poisoned chalice" with enemies in every corner. Delaney will have to weave through a web of conspiracy, dark family secrets, betrayal and murder if he is to unravel the truth and survive long enough to become successful.

One of the unidentified characters in the trailer even shouts out that Delaney should be hanged for treason while another screams someone should just kill Delaney, further indicating he is still a target. The trailer does not reveal who amongst his acquaintances was responsible for his current predicament.

 The eight-episode series was created by the "Mad Max: Fury Road" star and his father Chips Hardy along with Steven Knight, who is known for collaborating with the former for the 2013 film "Locke," according to VarietyFilmmaker Ridley Scott also serves as an executive producer and the first four episodes in the series was directed by Kristoffer Nyholm.

The series will also star Oona Chaplin, Jonathan Pryce, David Hayman, Michael Kelly, Mark Gatiss and Stephen Graham. Pryce has gained widespread popularity for playing the High Sparrow in HBO's "Game of Thrones" and Michael Kelly is known for his performance in "House of Cards." Gatiss is known for co-creating the BBC series "Sherlock," in which he also plays the role of Mycroft Holmes.

"Taboo" will premiere on BBC on Jan. 7, 2017 in the United Kingdom and on FX on Jan. 10, 2017 in the United States. The trailer can be viewed below:
