Right now, Jelena is just one chapter in Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez's life. At one point, they were the hottest young couple in town and fans and the paparazzi followed their every move. Jelena is also a source of a series of drama which still resurfaces every now and then.
The Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez break up is largely blamed for the "Hands to Myself" singer's problems, particularly for her mental health issue. Gomez recently cancelled the remaining legs of her "Revival World Tour" to focus on her health.
Speaking to People, Gomez said about going back to rehab, "I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off."
She continued, "I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues."
Bieber reportedly takes most of the heat for Gomez's struggles, with one source saying it was difficult for the former Disney Channel star to see the "What Do You Mean" singer looking happy and hooking up with other girls. It is reported that Gomez's unhealthy relationship with Bieber contributed to her breakdown.
One of Bieber's rumored girlfriends after Jelena is Sofia Richie. When Bieber posted a photo of him and Richie, fans reacted negatively to their rumored relationship, prompting him to slam fans for being "so mean" to his new love, Us Magazine reported.
Gomez came to fans' defense after Bieber threatened to make his Instagram private after fans dissed Richie. "If you can't handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol - it should be special between you two only," Gomez commented on Bieber's post. "Don't be mad at your fans. They love you."
Bieber responded with a snide remark that seemed to be addressed to Gomez. He pointed out that he found it funny that people used him to get attention. Gomez and Bieber's online feud didn't stop there. Bieber later attacked Gomez by accusing her of cheating on him with Zayn Malik.
