"Sherlock" Season 4 episode 2 spoilers indicate that the rift between Sherlock and his mate John Watson will deepen. The focus on the episode will be on the affer-effects of Mary's death and how it affects Sherlock and Watson.

The brilliant detective Sherlock was unable to protect Mary and she died in the first episode as a result of his lifestyle. This angle will be explored further in the second episode and Watson's wrath will also be seen because he also holds Sherlock responsible for his wife Mary's death, according to Newsweek.

A new vile villain will also be introduced in "Sherlock" Season 4 episode 2 who needs to be destroyed at all costs because he is very dangerous. Culverton Smith is the new villain and he is said to be even dangerous than Moriarty, according to Inquisitr. Actor Toby Jones plays Smith and he manages to challenge Sherlock to the utmost.

Despite their rift, Watson and Sherlock will need to combine forces to fight off Smith. Spending time together may help them to talk and mend fences to some extent but some critical differences still persist.

Creator of the show Steven Moffat said in an interview to Entertainment Weekly, that "Sherlock" Season 4 episode 2 is the darkest episode yet. He also added that despite being so grim, it still has its funny moments. Moffat confirmed that Mary is indeed dead on the show and her character will not be reprised.

When Moffat was asked as to why Mary decided to save Sherlock then he said that "Well, she saved her friend. Throughout the episode, she's really quite protective of them." He also added that, "She's actually better at all this than they are. She does what she can with no time to think."
