"Mass Effect: Andromeda" will launch in North America on March 21. The game will then be available Worldwide on March 23. It will launch for Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 Pro. Bioware has also revealed there are no plans yet to bring the game to the Nintendo Switch, which also releases in March.
Bioware's announcement was posted on the official blog site, prior to the presentation during the Consumer Electronics Show. A new trailer is also scheduled to be released, further showcasing the gameplay, story and characters.
The developers also revealed that during the holidays Bioware employees took home a build of the game referred to as the "holiday build" in order to test the game. Amongst those who playtested the game were members of the development team for the original trilogy.
"For the first time, we're bringing Mass Effect to the Frostbite game engine, an incredible engine that's delivering a tremendous graphical jump from the trilogy to 'Mass Effect: Andromeda.' To deliver on this, we're taking all the time we can to make sure you're getting the best possible experience," Bioware explained regarding the delay.
It was originally scheduled to release during the holidays but publisher Electronic Arts had delayed the game to an early 2017 schedule, Polygon reported. It was also revealed that the March release was first indicated in leaked promotional material but at the time Bioware made no comment about the date.
"Mass Effect: Andromeda" will follow the events from the original trilogy but it will focus on an entirely new cast of characters and is set in the Andromeda Galaxy. There will be two main characters: one that the character chooses to play as and their sibling, who will go on their own adventures throughout the game.
A cinematic trailer unveiled the game on Nov. 7, 2016, often referred to by fans as N7 Days, and a gameplay trailer was then released in December. The latter showcased the improved Mako and the updated combat mechanics.
