1.Breathe or inhale using your left nostril

According to MirrorOnline, this is a yoga method that works effectively in reducing your blood pressure and calming you down. So how you should do it is this - lie on your left side, then rest a finger on your right nostril to close it then breathe deeply through your left nose.

2.Challenge yourself to stay awake

This is called sleep paradox - the tendency of your mind to rebel when you are trying to force yourself to stay up. According to psychotherapist Julie Hirst, when you try to keep your eyes open and tell yourself not to sleep, your brain will instead interpret this as an instruction to sleep until sleepiness creeps up.

3.Recall the details of your day

This method of remembering the details of what happened throughout your day, no matter how mundane they are, can help clear your mind of worries to get yourself ready for sleep.

4.Use your pillow to help you feel more relaxed

Given that a pillow is used to make you feel more comfortable in bed, there are other ways by which you can use your pillow to help you doze off faster, according to Telegraph. Aside from elevating your head, you can use your pillow for other parts of your body like popping it between your legs when you are lying on your side. This helps pull the stress on the spine and hip.

5.Use acupressure

This is somewhat similar to the Chinese acupuncture only that it does not use needles. What you need to do is to apply pressure to certain body parts that promote sleep when touched.
