Asus has announced ZenFone 3 Zoom camera-centric smartphone at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2017 to replace the older ZenFone Zoom smartphone. Here is a comparison between the two smartphones based on their specifications, features and price.

The Asus ZenFone 3 Zoom features a polycarbonate chassis and it measures 154.3x 77 x 7.9 mm and weighs 170 grams. It comes in color choices such as Black, Gold and Silver. Its predecessor features a metallic chassis that measures 158.9 x 78.4 x 11.95 mm and its weight is 185 grams. Its two color variants are Black and White.

Both the smartphone features 5.5-inch full HD screens. The ZenFone Zoom's screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 whereas its successor features Gorilla Glass 5.

The ZenFone Zoom has a IPS LCD display that offers a screen-to-body ratio of 66.61 percent whereas the ZenFone 3 Zoom has an AMOLED screen that delivers a screen-to-body ratio of 70.28 percent.

Chipset, RAM and Storage

The ZenFone 3 Zoom is powered by a midrange Snapdragon 625 SoC along with 4 GB of RAM. Its native storage is 128 GB. It features a microSD card slot, Gizmo China reported.

The ZenFone Zoom is driven by Intel Atom Z3580 chipset and it comes in multiple RAM variants of 2 GB and 4 GB. It also features multiple native storage choices of 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. It also carries support for microSD slot.

Camera, Software and Other Features

The Asus ZenFone 3 Zoom has arrived with a rear-facing dual camera setup that includes 12-megapixel main and another 12-megapixel secondary shooter that has a 2.3X optical zoom lens. It is packed with features like dual LED flash, 4-axis OIS, EIS, laser autofocus, dual pixel autofocus, low-light focusing and RAW photography. Its selfie snapper is of 13-megapixel.

It comes preinstalled with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS and Zen UI 3.0. It is expected to receive Nougat update later this year. It features a USB Type-C port and v4.2 Bluetooth and its rear side has a fingerprint scanner.

The ZenFone Zoom has 13-megapixel camera with support for 3X optical zoom along with OIS, laser autofocus and dual LED flash. Its selfie camera is of 5-megapixel

The Zen UI 2.0 customized Android 5.0 Lollipop OS comes loaded on the smartphone. It has received Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. Since it is an older smartphone, it lacks USB Type-C and comes with a standard microUSB 2.0 port. It features v4.0 Bluetooth, but lacks a fingerprint sensor.

Battery and Price

The ZenFone 3 Zoom is packed with a 5,000 mAh battery that comes with fast charging support. The ZenFone Zoom has a smaller battery of 3,000 mAh capacity.

The 4 GB RAM model with 64 GB storage of the unlocked ZenFone Zoom was launched with a pricing of $399 in the U.S. It is now selling with a discounted price of $229.  The ZenFone 3 Zoom pricing has not been declared yet. It is expected to arrive with a $399. However, it is speculated to be available with a price range of $500 to $650, PC Mag reported.
