Singer-actor Kim Hyun Joong will soon return to civilian life as he completes his mandatory military service. The 30-year-old star will be discharged from the service on February, his agency confirmed.

A representative from KeyEast Entertainment announced on Jan. 3 that Kim Hyun Joong will be discharged on February, Soompi reported. The actor enlisted on May 20, 2015, just a few weeks after he was embroiled in a legal battle with his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his child.

No news about Kim Hyun Joong's comeback plans have been revealed yet. Prior to his enlistment, Kim starred in the successful drama series "Inspiring Generation" in which he received acclaim for his acting skills.

Meanwhile the appeals trial for Kim Hyun Joong and Ms. Choi's cast has been set for Jan. 11. In recall, Kim Hyun Joong's ex-girlfriend, Ms. Choi, filed a lawsuit against him for domestic abuse and demanded for 1.6 billion KRW in damages, allkpop reported. The woman claimed that the actor assaulted her, which resulted in a fractured rib that required several months of treatment.

During the investigation, Ms. Choi dropped all charges against the actor and agreed to a settlement, for which she demanded 600 million KRW. Kim Hyun Joong's lawyer later re-opened the case and requested for evidence from hospitals. It was then revealed by medical certificates that Ms. Choi's bruises and injuries were caused by working out in the gym, and not from the assault she claimed she suffered in Kim Hyun Joong's hands.

In the midst of the legal battle, Ms. Choi revealed that she's pregnant with Kim Hyun Joong's child. There was a huge debate on whether Kim Hyun Joong was indeed the father of the child, but Ms. Choi alleged that a DNA test result from the Seoul National University College of Medicine indicated that Kim is the father of the child with a 99.9 percent accuracy.

Kim Hyun Joong was found by the court not guilty of the charges of domestic violence. Ms. Choi was ordered to pay 100 million won as compensation for causing mental stress and making false claims. Ms. Choi has since appealed the decision, and the hearing for the appeal will resume on Jan. 11.
