The show will return with episode 8 titled "We have History Together" on Jan. 13 and it will see what happens after Stefan (Paul Wesley) turned off his humanity. "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) season 8 episode 8 will continue to see Stefan and Damon work to keep their commitment to Cade. The highly anticipated segment will see the beginning of final episodes of the series.

The network has released a detailed synopsis for the midseason premiere. According to Spoilersguide, "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) Season 8 episode 8 will see the Salvatore brothers join anger management support group. However, their intentions might be different.

Stefan and Damon are looking for their next victim and that's what got them to become a part of this group. Meanwhile, fans will find out Sybil is alive and what is she up to. It will be revealed that she is now teaching high school students whom she ultimately wants to use for her ulterior motive-to get Caroline locate a historical artefact that can be used against her.

In the meantime, a young doctor, Tara, becomes Stefan and Damon's target as they put her morals to test. Several media outlets are speculating that Tara might be Nina Dobrev's character Elena Gilbert's replacement. However, other reports suggest Dobrev's appearance before the series comes to an end. The network is yet to make official announcements.

In an interview with TV Line, showrunner Julie Plec teased what happens after Stefan has given up on his human side.

"Stefan's never been good with temptation while in ripper mode," Plec told the publication. "We know from past experience that Stefan has a threshold, and it'll be Damon's job to monitor his brother and make sure he stays on the good side of that threshold. If he crosses it, there's a risk of losing him forever."
