On Jan. 4, Disney sent out to the press a packet of information on their lineup of films for 2017, Comicbook reported. The packet includes the newest synopsis for "Thor: Ragnarok," featuring the Incredible Hulk and Doctor Strange. The synopsis reveals that Hulk will fight in a gladiator arena the way the he did in the Marvel Comics story titled "Planet Hulk," and that his opponent will be his former ally--the God of Thunder himself.

Previously, Disney confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch would appear as Doctor Strange to join Thor, Loki and the Hulk. With the recent release of the plot synopsis and teaser photo, the entertainment company confirmed that the story of "Thor: Ragnarok" would be greatly inspired by the "Planet Hulk" storyline.

The synopsis reveals that in the film, Thor will be trapped on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer. He will race against time to return to Asgard to stop "Ragnarok," the annihilation of his home world and the end of Asgardian civilization--at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. However, he must first survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that will pit him against the Incredible Hulk, a former ally and fellow Avenger.

Directed by Taika Waititi, "Thor: Ragnarok" will see the return of Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Joining them in the cast are Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Idris Elba, Karl Urban,Thessa Thompson and Anthony Hopkins.

This year, Marvel Studios will up their output to three films instead of the usual two, according to Independent. The first for this year is "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," featuring Baby Groot. This will be followed by the "Spider-Man" standalone film titled "Homecoming," which will offer an extended cameo from the Iron Man, portrayed by Robert Downey, Jr. The third and last one, "Thor: Ragnarok," is set to hit cinemas on Nov. 3.
