AC Milan has lost only once in their last six outings in the Italian top flight as the team is now settled in the fifth spot of the current league table. They are only two points below the third and final Champions League qualifying berth for next season held by third-place team Napoli.

In their most recent Serie A fixture on Dec. 17, Milan was held to a 0-0 draw by fellow contending side Atalanta BC also at their home ground of Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, as per Goal.

It was a tough, defensive fight for Milan and Atalanta throughout the contest, although it was the visitors who "posed the biggest threat in the first half", as it ended goalless and both squads sharing a point in the overall standings.

Meanwhile, last season's Serie B champions Cagliari pulled off a high-scoring 4-3 victory over struggling squad Sassuolo at their home field of Sant'Elia Stadium on Dec. 22, via Sporting Life.

Head coach Massimo Rastelli's side opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a goal by Marco Sau, but the visitors were able to equalize in the 29th with a right-footer by Claud Adjapong.

Sassuolo quickly took the lead in the 33rd with a goal by Lorenzo Pellegrini, but the Italian midfielder was booked with a red card in the 34th due to a hard foul.

Italian defender Francesco Acerbi made it a 3-1 lead for Sassuolo with a spot kick in the 58th minute, but Cagliari was able to come back with three straight goals, courtesy of one goal by Marco Borriello and a brace by Diego Farias, to secure the win.
