While the Golden Globes traditionally holds a "No-memorial" policy, it made an exception during its 74th leg on Jan. 8, Sunday with a touching tribute to actresses Debbie Reynolds and her daughter Carrie Fisher.

The 50-second montage featured Fisher and her childhood days together with her mother, as well as a clip of them singing a duet together. Clips of movies they appeared in were also shown.

It was host Jimmy Fallon introduced the segment of the show. He described the loss of both mother and daughter in just two days as "terrible" and said a tribute was in order.

Tributes for the duo then poured in from various personalities who attended the event. One of them, Meryl Streep, remembered Fisher fondly in her closing speech.

"As my friend Princes Leia told me, 'Take your broken heart, make it into art'", USA Today quoted her as saying.

Fisher's brother Todd also thanked the Golden Globes for airing the touching tribute. In a tweet, he expressed gratitude for "honoring my girls".

Fisher, best known as "Princess Leia" of the original "Star Wars" franchise, died last Dec. 27, 2016 due to cardiac arrest on a Los Angeles-bound United Airlines flight four days earlier. She had just wrapped up her book tour in London and was flying home when the attack occurred.

A day later, Reynolds also passed away after suffering a stroke. Todd shared to the Daily Mail how his mother wanted to see his sister again shortly before she lost consciousness.

"'I want to be with Carrie'", he quoted his mother's last words.

Both mother and daughter were buried together on Jan. 6, Friday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills in a private service. While Fisher's remains had been cremated earlier, a portion of her ashes were stored in a coffin which was placed next to the mother's.

Reynolds, who raised Fisher as a single parent after her husband, singer Eddie Fisher, abandoned her for Elizabeth Taylor, shared an amazing tight bond all throughout their lives. In their twilight years, the pair remained best friends and lived next to each other in separate houses.
